As the prevalence and severity of diabetes increases with age, the “greying” of the population will likely increase the societal burden of the consequences of diabetes. This issue is one of many to emerge at the 12th Annual Canadian Diabetes Association/ Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism Professional Conference in Montreal.

This month, clinics will begin to assess the level of lead in the blood of children ages 6 years and younger. The main reason for the study is to determine whether or not lead exposure is a health issue in Hamilton.
