Irene talked about Fiber !Dietary fiber is the part of a plant that provides and maintains the plants structure. These fibers are unrelated chemically, however they all have one thing in common, they can't be digested by the human body. For this reason, they can help correct disorders of the large intestine ( colon) and keep it functioning normally. Therefore it is important to increase the amount of fiber in your diet, as studies have indicated Canadians don't get enough fiber in their diet. The importance of dietary fiber or also called roughage or bulk promotes the wavelike contractions that keep food moving through the intestine. Also high-fiber foods expand the inside walls of the colon. This eases the passage of waste. Fibrous substances pass through the intestine undigested. They also absorb many times their weight in water, resulting in softer, bulkier stools.
Because a high-fiber diet causes a large, soft bulky stool that passes through the bowel easily and quickly, the chances of digestive tract disorders can be avoided, halted or even reversed. Disorders like IBS, Diverticulitis and colon polyps cancer. Dietary fiber is food mostly in fruits and vegetables, whole grains and legumes and is the best healthiest way to prevent constipation.
Fiber is classified into two categories, those that don't dissolve in water ( insoluble fiber) and those that do ( soluble fiber). Benefits of a high-fiber diet include; prevents constipation, lowers your risk of digestive conditions, lowers blood cholesterol levels, controls blood sugar levels, aids in weight loss.
